1937 saw the birth of the Triumph Speed Twin. Edward Turner was responsible for the design. He used this motorcycle to serve as the basis for the entire Triumph range for the following forty years. The legendary 180° OHV-Parallel-Twin with a cylinder capacity of 498 cm³ reached a top speed of 150 km/h, while producing 26 PS at 6,000 rpm.
The engine and the four speed transmission were mounted in a screwed double-loop frame. The 20" front wheel was sprung by a trapezium fork, while the 19" rear wheel was unsprung. The Suspension saddle tried to filter most vibrations. The motor cycle has a weight of 172 kg and disposes two drum brakes. It can be jacked up in the front as well as in the rear through a front and rear wheel rack. The sales price in 1937 was 75 pounds.
